The British Science Fiction Association has released the longlists of nominees for the BSFA Awards for work published in 2023.
The awards are voted on by members of the British Science Fiction Association and by the members of the year’s Eastercon, the national science fiction convention. The 2024 Eastercon, Levitation, will be held in Telford from March 29-April 1, where the winners will be announced.

Done voted!
(Just hope my picks aren’t ruled ‘ineligible’ for running afoul of West Midlands authority bye-laws …)
I realise banning RF Kuang from awards has acquired a taint, but if you found some genre content in Yellowface, it would be news to me.
Does anyone know when the final ballot will be released?
Why does Yellowface continue to be included on genre lists?
People don’t read and just vote for whatever someone puts out. That’s the only way Yellowface is on that list. Sigh.
Will Cahokia Jazz be Hugo-Eligible? It’s coming out on Feb. 6 in the US.
On Cahokia Jazz.
Yes as I read it it will be eligible. “Individual works are eligible only in their first year of publication.” It doesn’t say their first year of publication in the US.
It was published 5 Oct. 2023 in the UK. So meets the eligibility year criteria.
Of course I doubt it will be able to garner enough nominations to make the final ballot. Not enough US fans will have read it, and it is maybe a bit too far away from the type of books that typically make the shortlist.
Mmm.. and of course one has to be a fully paid up BSFA member to vote herein. And re the Eastercon 2024/Levitation (UK Nat SFCon) 2024 in Telford (where the Award winners are announced), that venue is North West of Birmingham in the English West Midlands. [ And esp for File 770 N/American readers, overseas fen attending are most welcome indeed. By UK Rail: nearest Station is Telford. There, there are a range of Hotels beside the Con venue (the Confce Centre). The nearest Airport to the Con is Birmingham UK [ IATA code: BHX ]. Below that, there is Birmingham Intl Rail Station { Station code : BHI } and from there, northbound, there are trains to Telford. Note that some trains only go as far as Wolverhampton (then change) . Starting at BHI however there are Transport for Wales (TfW) services which go direct, no change, to Telford. And as prev mentioned, those TfW trains eventually end up near Portmeirion (the Village) : tho that is much much further up the line! Rail times and fares are available on nationalrail(dot)co(dot)uk. ]
