Syfy has announced it will honor the passing of Leonard Nimoy with a special five-hour block of programming on Sunday morning, March 1 beginning 9 a.m./8c.

  1. Nimoy’s passing was front-page news in Calgary because of his connection with the nearby village of Vulcan. The place was named after the Roman god. It is in the wheat-growing flatlands with no natural or historical sites to attract tourists. Vulcan’s population was gradually dwindling away when the locals hit on the idea of building a giant model of the Enterprise and putting together a Trek museum. They also have an annual festival called VulCon.

    Nimoy visited Vulcan in 2010. He helped the townsfolk in getting permissions from Paramount and to be officially named Star Trek Capital Of Canada. The Vulcan post office uses a pictorial postmark showing the Trek museum.
