Films from Hugo-winning Novels

How many movies are based on Hugo-winning Novels? In his latest contribution to the AMCtv blog, John Scalzi ticks off the list: Starship Troopers, Dune, and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Yes, that’s all.

That means, for example, more movies are based on the works of Philip K. Dick alone than on all the novels we gave the Hugo.

Another piece of trivia I know about this subject: Unlike every single other science fiction writer who ever had a movie made from one of his stories, Frank Herbert actually liked Dune. Knowing this, when I sat behind him at the 1985 Hugo ceremony I refrained from cracking any jokes during the showing of the Dune trailer, ripe as it was for the Mystery Theatre 3000 treatment.
