MORE ABOUT THE ULTIMATE GAME OF ALL TIME. The shortlist for GamesRadar+’s Ultimate Game of All Time category began by deciding how to narrow the 1.1 million or so games released in the last 50 years into a voting shortlist of 20 titles. A longlist of several hundred titles was compiled from existing best of all time lists produced for Edge Magazine and Retro Gamer magazine, plus the addition of every Ultimate Game of the Year winner from the Golden Joystick Awards (established 1983). The longlist was then sifted by a panel of industry judges who created the shortlist of 20 that was put up for public voting.
The Golden Joystick Awards 2021 nominations are in and gamers can now vote for their favorite games of 2021. Click here to cast your ballot. Voting will be open until Friday November 5, and the winners will be revealed in the online broadcast November 23.
Wildermyth and Psychonauts 2 lead the shortlist with four nominations each.
However, the ballot is not necessarily locked in. GamesRadar+ says to be eligible for nomination, a game must have been released between Nov 20, 2020 (when last year’s Ultimate Game of the Year vote closed) and October 19, but “in exceptional cases, upcoming games that are due be released during the Golden Joystick Awards’ voting window, from Tuesday October 19 to Friday November 5, will be considered by our judges for addition to the voting shortlists after they have been released, reviewed and debated.” Games released after public voting closes on November 5, but before the show is broadcast on November 23, will be eligible for their Critics’ Choice award, selected by a panel of judges.

The Medium
In addition to the categories above, the awards administrators will put Ultimate Game of the Year to a public vote in the last two weeks of voting. They will also be adding the Best New Streamer / Broadcaster later.
Awards will also be given for several “critically-chosen” categories, including Lifetime Achievement (last year’s winner was Sega’s Yu Suzuki), Best Performance, Breakthrough Award, and Outstanding Achievement.
The awards, given
since 1983 for the very best computer and video
games of the year, are significant because they’re mainly voted for by
the public. More than 3.5 million votes came in for 19 of the 24 categories.
