Paramount Acquires Film Based on Chiang Story

Paramount Pictures has bought the U.S., Canadian and China distribution rights for Story of Your Life, scripted by Eric Heisserer from Ted Chiang’s short story – winner of the Nebula and Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Awards.

“The film is centered on the landing of alien crafts around the world, and the expert linguist (Adams), who is recruited by the military to determine whether they come in peace or are a threat,” explains the Paramount press release.

Starring Amy Adams, the film had five studios battling over it on the eve of the Cannes Film Festival. Paramount reportedly will pay $20 million for the rights.
