SLF Names Older Writers Grant Winner

Mario Milosevic has won the Speculative Literature Foundation’s Older Writers Grant.

The $750 grant assists writers who are at least 50 years old and just starting to work at a professional level.

The Speculative Literature Foundation is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the interests of readers, writers, editors and publishers in the speculative literature community.

Caren Gussoff Wins Gulliver Grant

The Speculative Literature Foundation has awarded its 2009 Gulliver Travel Research Grant to author Caren Gussoff. The $800 grant will assist Gussoff in visiting western Washington State to research the setting of her near-future novel The King of Seattle.

Gussoff’s stories have appeared in Abyss & Apex, PodCastle and Fantasy Magazine, and in several Seal Press anthologies. Her novel King of Seattle explores a post-pandemic Puget Sound, in which mental illness is a communicable disease.

Gulliver Travel Research Grants are awarded for use in paying for airfare, lodging, or other expenses related to research for a project of speculative fiction. Applications for the seventh annual Grant will open on July 1, 2010.

Simpson Wins SLF Grant

Karen L. Simpson of Ann Arbor has won the Speculative Literature Foundation’s sixth annual Older Writers Grant which assists writers age 50 and up who are just starting to work on a professional level. Simpson is receiving a grant of $750.

The Speculative Literature Foundation is a non-profit organization that promotes the interests of readers, writers, editors and publishers in the speculative literature community. The Older Writers Grant is sponsored by Centric Advertising and ISFIC (Illinois Science Fiction in Chicago).
